DANCE TUITION IN LONDON WITH
EMMA WEIR
BA (Hons) PGCE Fellow IDTA
Happy New Year! Please see below for classes taking place January – April 2025.
I will be teaching a line dance class on Thursdays 10:00-11:00am at the newly reopened Walworth Town Hall, a beautiful historic building that has been restored following a fire a few years ago. The first class is due to be Thursday 16th January and for the whole month of January, this class will be open to all adults at no charge, although as the project grows, there will likely be a fee for future classes. More information will be available in the week before the first lesson as this is a new project and due to the holidays, I don’t have the booking information at time of updating this page. In the meantime, please email me emma@dted.co.uk to register your interest and I’ll make sure you get the information when it comes.
Classes take place at the Crossway Church in SE1, five minutes walk from Elephant & Castle (Bakerloo, Northern and Thameslink lines) or a short bus ride from Waterloo and London Bridge. The Elizabeth line connection at Farringdon makes a very quick change to the city on the Thameslink, and Bank station is just three stops away on the Northern line.
This is a partner dance class but you don’t need to attend with a partner. Most come solo and we rotate partners through the group, and new members will be encouraged to do the same whether you come with a partner or not. If you are unsure about this, do have a chat with me before booking.
Book by emailing me at emma@dted.co.uk and I will arrange payment and give you the access code for the building.
Tuesdays 6-7pm on the dates below: | Style | Cost |
21st & 28th January Booking now | Lindy Hop | £9 per session (£8 concs) or both for £15 |
4th, 11th, 25th February (No class on 18th February) Booking now | Rock ‘n’ Roll | £9 per session (£8 concs) or all three for £22 |
Although you can pick which dates you attend and you don’t have to book all of them, it is important that that I know how many to expect to ensure we have enough people to run with and that the partnering is fairly balanced so please book and pay in advance.
Some of the former Mary Ward outreach classes are continuing across the Camden borough but now they are being funded and managed by the centres themselves so in most cases there is a nominal fee (£1-3 contribution per class) or an annual membership. Classes are aimed at older adults living locally. Existing members can liaise with their usual contacts at the centre but if you’d like to find out if you are eligible to join, please contact me in the first instance and I can pass you on to the right person.
New members are particularly welcome to the Dragon Hall online class and the Line Dance (now at ‘Improver’ level) at Peel on Wednesday lunchtimes. Do ask me if you’re interested in joining.
Dragon Hall Trust: Line Dance (on Zoom) Mondays 9:00-10:00 from 13th January (12 week course booked in advance.)
Camden Chinese Community Centre: Line Dance Mondays 11:00-12:00 and 12:05-13:05 from 13th January (Members only – 12 week course booked in advance.)
Castlehaven Community Centre: Ballroom Fridays 10:00-11:00 and Line Dance 11:00-12:00 from 10th January (Note that classes are now on FRIDAYS and will take place at Clarence Hall, not Kelly Street. Members only.)
Peel Institute: Improvers’ Line Dance Wednesdays 13:00-14:00 from 18th September (All welcome but this class is now at ‘Improver’ level so check with me if you’re not sure if this class is suitable for you.)
Abbey Community Centre: Gentle Dance (Freestyle) Fridays 13:30-14:30 from 10th January (Drop in – but this class gets very busy, please arrive promptly or admittance may be denied.)
Last academic year, classes moved to their new venues and timeslots and most are continuing in the same slots as last year, plus we still have a selection of Saturday afternoon ballroom one-off classes for those who want to do more or who can’t make a weekly class. These are split between Stratford and Rushworth Street (the Blackfriars Settlement in Southwark) so see which dates and locations suit you. Our Saturday morning online course is still running for six weeks of each term for as long as people still want it.
The new Mary Ward website has my classes listed here:
All classes on this page are mine except for Circle Dance and Zumba.
The new Mary Ward outreach classes in Stratford and surrounding areas are returning in January, please check with your individual centre for exact dates. Members of all these classes can sign up via the usual contacts at your local centre or by email to Maddy and / or Zoe once term begins w/c 13th January. The Freestyle at Stratford Library returns a week later than the other classes due to a library event and it now has two time slots so please contact Maddy to put your name down for one or the other.
